About A Slice of Life

A Slice of Life

This is the PhotoBlog of CJaM - Craig James McCormick. The focus will be on street and documentary photography within a fairly current timeframe, e.g. photos taken within a few days / weeks / months.
But I'll also throw in a few pix here and there of other styles that I happen to take.

Originally from Michigan, I now reside in northern England and work in I.T.
I currently take pix for the fun of it, but I used to be a professional at various times, including a military photographer and a freelance travel & wedding photographer. My pictures were published in more than 30 different business magazines and newspapers in the 90's

I am a loyal Nikon owner and have been since my first FM2 I bought in 1982. I'm using a D300 exclusively at this time.

A gallery site is adjacent to this with more historical photos included, but I decided to start a photo blog, as my gallery site will be working from old to new shots, and I thought at the speed it's taken me to do a photography site (years), no one will ever get to see my 'newer' shots! - thus a Photo Blog is born.

To me, Street photography is not just of the 'street' - it can be anywhere people are going about their daily lifes and the opportunity for candid shots arise, thus my 'street' scenes will be of the street, the road, the park, the countryside, the beach and more...

I've called it - "A Slice of Life" - as Street and Documentary work is just a moment captured in the daily lives of the people around us. It will be updated as the photography 'seasons' and my schedule permit.

If you have any additional comments or questions about my work, please use the contact form: Contact Me.

Enjoy.

Definitions

"Street photography uses the techniques of straight photography in that it shows a pure vision of something, like holding up a mirror to society. Street photography often tends to be ironic and can be distanced from its subject matter and often concentrates on a single human moment, caught at a decisive or poignant moment. On the other hand, much street photography takes the opposite approach and provides a very literal and extremely personal rendering of the subject matter, giving the audience a more visceral experience of walks of life they might only be passingly familiar with. In the 20th century, street photographers have provided an exemplary and detailed record of street culture in Europe and North America, and elsewhere to a somewhat lesser extent."

"Documentary photography usually refers to a type of professional photojournalism, but it may also be an amateur or student pursuit. The photographer attempts to produce truthful, objective, and usually candid photography of a particular subject, most often pictures of people. Their role is to tell a story in pictures, whether these are photographs from a war zone, a study of old age, documenting your children growing up, or images of a landscape changing because of development."
