First Snow

Blackley Hill, near Elland. Kids and families at play at the weekend. The middle of January and our first snow in West Yorkshire was just a few days ago. They forecasted more, but it ended up just being a few wet inches. Disappointing, but they all were having fun, even if some of the brown stuff from being a cow pasture was seeping up underfoot!
We had to wash all our clothes afterwards….

I haven’t been out to too many events this year, unfortunately, due to the piss poor weather over the Summer in England and various other reasons.

Thus posting on the blog has been fairly minimal —

Today though, the sun was shining and I saw this super light coming through the window. This together with our pooch made a decent shot I think…

Crabbing in Cromer

Just got back from a week on the Norfolk coast. The weather wasn’t too bad, even had a few scorching days, but mainly just mild and dry which is good enough for an English Summer!

One of the days we went off to the little village of Cromer, which is famous in the region for crabs. Many-a-daytripper also try their hand at catching crabs off the pier and here is a shot of a group with their heads over looking down at their lines hoping for a catch.

Muskegon Sunset at Pere Marquette Park

I grew up just 10 miles from this lighthouse at Pere Marquette Park in Muskegon, Michigan. Yet I don’t recall ever getting down there for a sunset shot in my early days or any visit since….. until now. I’ve managed to get down there on three different evenings thus far to catch the sunset over Lake Michigan in this heatwave that the Mid-West is having. Even at 9:30 pm when these shots were taken thereabouts, it was warm enough to swim…..

4th of July

It’s been awhile since the last wet post……. Time has progressed and I now find myself back in the sunny USA.
I’m posting a few pix of the 4th of July fireworks at White Lake in Whitehall, Michigan. Whitehall is a sleeply little town north of where I come from originally.
The senses got confused as in England we’re used to going inside from a cool air temp to get warmed up in the house, practically all times of the year! But here, we walk from an air conditioned house out into an oven…. and you go inside to get cool, not warm! Even at 10:45 pm last night when the fireworks were finished it was 83 degrees. Now that’s Summer.

Skipton Gala 2012: A day of miserable weather across the country again….. Many events were scheduled for today across the north, some were cancelled, some carried on.

We decided to brave a day out in North Yorkshire at Skipton Gala.

Morecambe Jubilee Street Party I

There’s one thing you can’t count on in Britain…. and that’s the weather. It’s the Diamond Jubilee this weekend; 60 years Queen Elizabeth has been on the throne. The Brits have a 4 day weekend to celebrate and it looks as if our token few days of decent weather have already been granted for Spring – so now we’re back to semi-normal weather, cool, grey and wet. Of the hundreds of street parties scheduled for the celebrations across the country, most were for today. And the weather really couldn’t have been worse.

I chose to go to one on England’s west coast, in Morecambe, Lancashire as they were trying for a record breaking party on the promenade. Have a look at the brave residents who came out in style.. More in Post II.

The Couple

Well, the weather has turned back to normal, i.e. cold and gray or grey if you’re English. So I thought I’d do some experiments in which the duller weather would be suitable. This is Bradford. See the couple sitting on the Bench in each shot….. I was there for 10-15 min taking these shots and they are the constant, as are the benches, concrete and buildings. Enjoy.
